Elphie Owen

Treasurer

Elphie grew up in Denver, Colorado and developed a sense of stewardship of place under the tutelage of her 6th grade science teacher, Jack McKenna. Clambering around the banks of Cherry Creek that flows through downtown Denver, she learned the plants and animals living in this urban waterway and took the lessons to heart. Greatly influenced as well by the writings of Wendell Berry, Elphie is interested in acting locally and inspiring others to do the same. Having earned her Masters in Education at Lesley University in Cambridge, Massachusetts, Elphie has been fortunate to have served in the public-school system in Camden Rockport schools for 17 of her 32 years of teaching. She teaches math at the Camden Rockport Middle School. She has two grown children and has lived in Camden for 20 years.
